It's time to explore the eighties-est jukebox musical of them all! Hair bands, hair spray and hairy monkeys await in Rock of Ages!
And if that's not enough, I'm back for my third go-round of Cheapskate Live! This time the Cheapskate and I take a little nostalgia trip back to the 90s as we partake in Magic: The Gathering: The Musical. Yeah, you heard right.
Located on a small expansion shelf about midway between the Third and Fourth Circles, Musical Hell is presided over by Diva, a minor demon charged with passing judgement on the worst musicals ever committed to film. (She still hasn't figured out if this is their punishment or hers.) Take a seat on the bench and have your earplugs ready, because court is now in session.

Rock of Ages: To See or Not to See?
I've been debating on whether or not I
want to see Rock of Ages in
theaters or wait until it gets out on video, and my inclination is
steadily working its way towards the latter. The reviews haven't
been very encouraging, and neither is the clip of Catherine
Zeta-Jones singing “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” featuring what I hope is deliberately silly choreography. If one of the
few women I'd happily go bi for can't sell me on one of my favorite
80s guilty pleasure songs, what hope is there for the rest of the
movie? (And why does the lip sync look so awkward?)
A
future Musical Hell case? Won't know until I actually have seen it, really. For the moment, I think I'll stick with taking my
nieces to see Brave instaed.
