Located on a small expansion shelf about midway between the Third and Fourth Circles, Musical Hell is presided over by Diva, a minor demon charged with passing judgement on the worst musicals ever committed to film. (She still hasn't figured out if this is their punishment or hers.) Take a seat on the bench and have your earplugs ready, because court is now in session.

The Future of Musical Hell

So, as most of you are now aware, Blip has gone through yet another content purge.  It is my sad duty to inform you that Musical Hell is among the shows which they have declined to continue hosting.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't upset.  I would also be lying if I said I was surprised.  Blip never even upgraded my account past basic; I didn't expect to stay around forever.  To be honest, until today I wasn't even sure they knew I existed.  I felt like that colony of department store squatters in Evening Primrose: hiding away in the crannies of a big institution, surviving as best I could and disposing of the people who threatened to expose me by turning them into mannequins.  (Okay, maybe not the last part.  And thus ends the obscure musical reference for this post.)  I've been pleased with the response I've gotten for this series, but I've always known that I am a small fish in this whole enterprise, and Blip has made it perfectly clear that they don't see a place for small fish in their pond.

But that's the thing: Blip isn't the only pond out there.  And I still have things to say.  I have a couple great episodes lined up for you, and more in the works.  Jersey Boys, Into the Woods, Annie, The Last 5 Years, and live versions of Peter Pan and The Music Man are all on the horizon.  I have two great host sites who have been gracious in giving me a platform for my material.  So yeah, I'm disappointed, frustrated, even a little discouraged.  But I'm not giving up.

So what does this mean?  Just that Musical Hell and Know the Score will be moving to a new address.  YouTube, if I can weather the content bots, but if not Dailymotion and Vimeo are out there.  Once I have a new home, I will go through all the old posts and edit the embedded videos to the new host.  So you can keep coming back to this blog and revisit the old episodes, and they will still be there.  I'm also toying with the idea of creating a Patreon account, but I'm not sure if that would be a good fit for me or not.  Time will tell.

Finally, at the end of this slightly unfocused ramble, I just want to say: thank you.  All of you, whether you've offered feedback, advice, a crossover opportunity, a cameo, a soapbox for me to yell from, or just came by every once in a while and clicked on a video.  You have all helped keep this show going, and I hope you will stay with me through whatever the future has to offer.

  1. Well, screw Blip. The only time I ever watched anything on Blip was on your site and that SF Debris guy's site.
